Nathan Turley completed his Master's in Sociology at the University of Calgary. His Master's thesis was a qualitative exploration of people's use of Facebook, self-representation, authenticity, and privacy on the site, and the ways they overlap.
As a member of the EQuIS team, Nathan works as a research associate leading a qualitative research project on surgical safety checklists.
Prior to joining the EQuIS team, Nathan worked for the Department of Family Medicine in a couple capacities. First, as a qualitative research assistant for faculty on a variety of projects concerning medical education, physicians' thresholds for referrals, and patient-centred care. In 2012, he became a research coordinator in the family medicine residency program. In this role, he coached and guided residents through research and quality improvement projects, helped develop and run evidence-based medicine teaching sessions on various research methodologies, and assessed resident scholarly work. Over the years, this work provided him with lots of experience with working on research teams, managing projects, and analyzing qualitative data.
Outside of work, Nathan is a husband and father who enjoys travelling, cycling, and reading.
